Father "Kiss of Death"

A kiss from a parent can be a sign of affection for the baby. But you should be careful when it comes to kissing your baby, especially a newborn, premature or born with a weak condition. One-one, proof of love could kill you instead.
As happened on Kaiden McCormick, a tiny baby who died after being kissed by her own father. Kaiden was born prematurely and died from multiple organ failure after being infected with the virus of cold sores (oral herpes or herpes on the lips), which are transmitted by kissing her father's passing.
Kaiden spent 6 weeks with a life-support machine, but doctors could not save her life and this poor baby died at the age of two months.
His parents, Carl MacLaren (34 years) and Marrie-Claire McCormick (28 years), was shocked when his son attacked by the herpes simplex virus, a disease carried by most people though usually not active or 'sleep'.
"I asked how could the baby have herpes. When the doctor said the virus is transmitted from cold sores, I looked at Carl and he instinctively touched his lips. At that moment I saw him split into two," said Marrie-Claire McCormick, who is from Bootle , Merseyside, England, as reported by Dailymail, Friday (08/03/2013).
Heart Carl was devastated knowing he was the cause of his son's death. As a father, he blamed himself.
"But I never blamed Carl. All she did with love and affection. He has been a perfect father. I hated to see punish themselves," said Marrie.
Kaiden was born five weeks prematurely on March 28 last year. Birth is a great happiness for the couple Carl and Marrie. They spoil Kaiden and every night after a bath, they spend time to kiss and hug before bed.
But before the age of 2 weeks, Kaiden makes parents panic when his body turned blue and refuse to drink milk. Body temperature rose, blue and had stopped breathing.
Paramedics arrived within minutes and rushed him to Alder Hay Hospital in Liverpool, where Kaiden was immediately taken to the resuscitation. Parents kept vigil at her bedside, but 48 hours later the doctor warned to survive Kaiden need ventilator.
After six weeks in the hospital, Kaiden still could not breathe for himself. And when he began to suffer seizures, Marrie and Carl asked to consider turning off all the life support machine.
"We were told there was no hope and as a mother you want to protect your baby from suffering, so we made the hardest decision of our lives. We give permission to turn off the engine so he could sleep (for ever). He handed it to me and I snuggle and hug when he slipped 'away'. I kissed her and told her how much I loved her. I hold him in her arms when she fell asleep for the last time, "recalls Marrie.
Cold sore virus is lethal in the first six weeks of life baby. Cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), which is carried by most people, but usually inactive and harmless. The virus can be transmitted through physical contact, such as kissing or breastfeeding.
While most adults carry the virus with no health risk, it can be fatal to infants because of low immunity. The first six weeks of life is the most risky for the baby.
Although difficult to detect, early signs of infection including infants did not want to eat, drowsiness, fever,drooping and unusual crying.

Vitamin D Overdose Pregnancy Increase Risk of Food Allergies in Children

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for maintaining the immune system and strong bones. However, excessive levels of vitamin D during pregnancy due to the consumption of supplements, may increase the risk of food allergy in children in the future.
Researchers from Leipzig Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Germany shows that the consumption of vitamin D supplements during pregnancy may increase the risk of food allergy in infants. Excessive levels of vitamin D in the blood of pregnant women, it can interfere with normal immune responses after the baby is born.
Since 1990, researchers have studied the link between vitamin D with food allergies. It is connected with the theory that immune cells are low in the blood increases the risk of higher food allergy in infants and children.
The research team measured levels of vitamin D during pregnancy and vitamin D are found in the baby's umbilical cord blood. Then, after a lapse of two years, researchers are studying whether there are signs of food allergy in infants. The study involved 622 mothers and 629 children.
The results clearly show that children of mothers with vitamin D levels are higher during pregnancy, are more likely to have food allergies, compared with pregnant women with vitamin D levels lower or insufficient. The research was subsequently published in the medical journal Allergy edition in February.

Overweight Pregnancy Increases Risk of Heart Disease in Infants

Being overweight or obese during pregnancy, has been associated with the risk of pregnancy and birth defects in infants. Recent studies have even shown that women who are overweight may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in the baby later.

The study involved a group of pregnant women, average age 35, who have been followed since the age of 16 weeks of pregnancy until delivery. Ten babies born with male sex and had birth weights ranged from 1.85 kg to 4.31 kg.

Every newborn to the age of 7 days, examined closely in the stomach aorta, which is part of the artery that extends to the abdomen. The goal is to determine the thickness of the two inner walls, the intima-media.

Intima-media thickness ranged from 0.65 to 0.97 mm and it is associated with maternal weight during pregnancy. Pregnant women who are overweight are more likely to have babies with the thickness of the intima-media thickness, regardless of the weight babies weighed at birth.

Early physical signs of an increased risk of heart disease is the development of atherosclerosis (clogged arteries) in the abdominal aorta.

"Intima-media thickness of the aorta is considered to be a non-invasive way to determine vascular health in children," said Michael Skilton from Sydney University, who led the research.

This might explain how excess weight during pregnancy, may affect the risk of subsequent children have an increased risk for heart disease and stroke later in life. The results were published in the journal fetal and Neonatal Edition of Archives of Disease of Childhood.

Generally, in a family of a child only has one mother and one father.
