Father "Kiss of Death"

Posted by Unknown Friday, March 8, 2013 0 comments
A kiss from a parent can be a sign of affection for the baby. But you should be careful when it comes to kissing your baby, especially a newborn, premature or born with a weak condition. One-one, proof of love could kill you instead.
As happened on Kaiden McCormick, a tiny baby who died after being kissed by her own father. Kaiden was born prematurely and died from multiple organ failure after being infected with the virus of cold sores (oral herpes or herpes on the lips), which are transmitted by kissing her father's passing.
Kaiden spent 6 weeks with a life-support machine, but doctors could not save her life and this poor baby died at the age of two months.
His parents, Carl MacLaren (34 years) and Marrie-Claire McCormick (28 years), was shocked when his son attacked by the herpes simplex virus, a disease carried by most people though usually not active or 'sleep'.
"I asked how could the baby have herpes. When the doctor said the virus is transmitted from cold sores, I looked at Carl and he instinctively touched his lips. At that moment I saw him split into two," said Marrie-Claire McCormick, who is from Bootle , Merseyside, England, as reported by Dailymail, Friday (08/03/2013).
Heart Carl was devastated knowing he was the cause of his son's death. As a father, he blamed himself.
"But I never blamed Carl. All she did with love and affection. He has been a perfect father. I hated to see punish themselves," said Marrie.
Kaiden was born five weeks prematurely on March 28 last year. Birth is a great happiness for the couple Carl and Marrie. They spoil Kaiden and every night after a bath, they spend time to kiss and hug before bed.
But before the age of 2 weeks, Kaiden makes parents panic when his body turned blue and refuse to drink milk. Body temperature rose, blue and had stopped breathing.
Paramedics arrived within minutes and rushed him to Alder Hay Hospital in Liverpool, where Kaiden was immediately taken to the resuscitation. Parents kept vigil at her bedside, but 48 hours later the doctor warned to survive Kaiden need ventilator.
After six weeks in the hospital, Kaiden still could not breathe for himself. And when he began to suffer seizures, Marrie and Carl asked to consider turning off all the life support machine.
"We were told there was no hope and as a mother you want to protect your baby from suffering, so we made the hardest decision of our lives. We give permission to turn off the engine so he could sleep (for ever). He handed it to me and I snuggle and hug when he slipped 'away'. I kissed her and told her how much I loved her. I hold him in her arms when she fell asleep for the last time, "recalls Marrie.
Cold sore virus is lethal in the first six weeks of life baby. Cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), which is carried by most people, but usually inactive and harmless. The virus can be transmitted through physical contact, such as kissing or breastfeeding.
While most adults carry the virus with no health risk, it can be fatal to infants because of low immunity. The first six weeks of life is the most risky for the baby.
Although difficult to detect, early signs of infection including infants did not want to eat, drowsiness, fever, drooping and unusual crying.

Super Rare Muscle Disease Make It Changed Becoming Bone

Posted by Unknown Tuesday, March 5, 2013 0 comments

A student at New York experienced a rare disease that is only experienced by about 800 people around the world. This disease makes the muscles turn into bone. Doctors difficult to cure because not much research done to understand this disease.
Joey Suchanek (20 years old) were still actively studying at Marist College, New York. He suffered from a disease called fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive (FOP), a rare disease that can not be cured and cause connective tissue turns into bone in her body.
"My left arm petrified with an angle of 90 degrees and locks into the side of the body. Well my right arm in a 90 degree angle, but I can fold it to grab and eat their own face can not be stretched though. When I was a baby, growing bones near ribs lock my arms until I grew up, "Joey said as reported by CBS News, Tuesday (05/03/2013).
According to Joey, no matter when he was born. Until one day, he had a lump on her head. Initially doctors suspected the lump was cancerous and picked it up, but bumps up again a few months later. Upon further inspection, it turns out the lump is not cancerous.
Because when the internet was not yet widespread, Joey's father every night to go to the bookstore to find out the strange symptoms in children. Suspect a rare disease, Joey and taken to a geneticist at the age of 2 years old and was diagnosed with FOP.
This disease affects the growth and cause severe scoliosis. Uneven hips and left leg grew shorter than the right leg. He also had pain for 8 weeks until the bones stopped growing. When this happens, Joey was not able to walk.
"The most painful part is the swelling, swelling really intense.'s Really unexpected. Doctors can not do much. Yet able to estimate how long the symptoms will last," said Joey.
Until now, there were 2 people in the world who are considered experts on the disease, namely Dr. Frederick S. Kaplan, head of the orthopedics division of molecular medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and Dr. Eileen Shore, also from the University of Pennsylvania.

According to Dr. Kaplan, FOP is a very rare disease and only affects about 1 out of 2 million people. All patients with FOP are born with abnormalities of the bunion, the bump on the joint at the base of the big toe. The foot is the last part that grows in the embryo.
Newborns usually do not indicate a problem, but parents can be suspected if the child can not look stiff or crawl. Around the age of 2-5 years, a painful swelling and look like tumors can appear suddenly. It is the response of the immune system that attacks the skeletal muscles, tendons and ligaments and ultimately destroy the network.
"Instead of forming scar tissue from muscle destruction, something in the immune system triggers the formation of stem cells that have the potential to connect with the nearby cartilage, converting cells into bone, muscle is not new," said Dr. Kaplan.
Because the disease is very rare and not well understood doctors, Suchanek was willing to become the face of a campaign to raise money for research. He also decided to tell his condition to the public Internet through a social site Reddit Ask Me Anything by program (AMA).
About 80 percent of the funding for the study came from the FOP fundraiser held family and doctors. Dr Kaplan said the results could contribute more than U.S. $ 150,000 per year. The funds collected from various events such as family gatherings, bingo games or donations from the owner of the gas station.

Vitamin D Overdose Pregnancy Increase Risk of Food Allergies in Children

Posted by Unknown Monday, March 4, 2013 0 comments

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for maintaining the immune system and strong bones. However, excessive levels of vitamin D during pregnancy due to the consumption of supplements, may increase the risk of food allergy in children in the future.
Researchers from Leipzig Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Germany shows that the consumption of vitamin D supplements during pregnancy may increase the risk of food allergy in infants. Excessive levels of vitamin D in the blood of pregnant women, it can interfere with normal immune responses after the baby is born.
Since 1990, researchers have studied the link between vitamin D with food allergies. It is connected with the theory that immune cells are low in the blood increases the risk of higher food allergy in infants and children.
The research team measured levels of vitamin D during pregnancy and vitamin D are found in the baby's umbilical cord blood. Then, after a lapse of two years, researchers are studying whether there are signs of food allergy in infants. The study involved 622 mothers and 629 children.
The results clearly show that children of mothers with vitamin D levels are higher during pregnancy, are more likely to have food allergies, compared with pregnant women with vitamin D levels lower or insufficient. The research was subsequently published in the medical journal Allergy edition in February.
Allergy to foods such as egg whites, milk protein, wheat flour, peanuts or soybeans associated with high levels of immunoglobulin E in children. The immune system called T-cells, serves to protect a person from food allergies.
"Vitamin D levels are too high in the baby's blood correlates with the number of T-cells a little more," said Dr. Gunda Herberth, leader of the study,The researchers recommended to pregnant women to avoid
taking vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk of food allergy in his future. Fulfill your need for vitamin D naturally from foods such as dairy products, such as yogurt and cheese, eggs, spinach, as well as support from sun exposure.
T-cells are less, "said Dr.. Gunda Herberth, leader of the study. The researchers recommended to pregnant women to avoid taking vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk of food allergy in his future. Posted by Unknown Saturday, March 2, 2013 0 comments

Generally people get vaccinated by injection or ditetes. But a man in San Diego who are infected with the virus in the smallpox vaccine after he had sex, now she became immune to smallpox.
This man infected with vaccinia virus, the virus in the smallpox vaccine. In June 2012 he had sexual intercourse with someone who has been vaccinated for smallpox. Once infected, it turns out he pass the virus back to other sexual partners who also have not been vaccinated.
Reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that people who have the vaccine could transmit the virus to people who are not vaccinated during sexual activity, and this guy could pass again in people who have not been vaccinated. This phenomenon is known as tertiary transmission.
The smallpox vaccine contains live vaccinia virus similar to smallpox but does not cause disease. Because it contains live vaccine can cause symptoms in people who are vaccinated and can spread to other people.
People can be infected with vaccinia virus if it touch the vaccine or have had contact with contaminated clothing. Symptoms of vaccinia virus infection include rashes, fever and headache and body.
Since 2002, the CDC reported that there were 115 reports of transmission of vaccinia virus among persons vaccinated with a no. Most of these infections occur through intimate contact (sexual intercourse) or contact the mother and child.
But what happens to the men of San Diego is the first case reported that vaccinia transmission through sex tertiary occurrence. The report is published in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
The two people infected with vaccinia virus through sexual contact is developed rashes on some parts of his body, as well as fever, fatigue and nausea. Both were treated with vaccinia immune globulin is an antibody.
"Because men are not vaccinated infected with vaccinia virus, they are now immune to smallpox," said researcher Rachael Joseph of CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service, as quoted by FoxNews

Emma Murphy, a woman 32 years old from Whitefield, Greater Mancheste, England, was diagnosed with epilepsy since the age of 12 years. For 20 years, the mother of five children regularly consume anti-seizure medication, Epilim, including when she was pregnant.
Doctors who deal never told about the risks of taking Epilim during pregnancy. And now five children, Chloe (9 years), Lauren (8 years), Luke (7 years) Erin (5 years), and Kian (3 years), all physical and developmental problems, ranging from autism, deaf, cerebral palsy to incontinence (unable to resist the urge to urinate).
"It is very difficult because my kids each have individual needs and dealing with autistic children is very challenging. Husband and I have a good routine and we can handle it, but this has put a lot of pressure on us as a couple," said Emma Murphy, as reported by the Daily Mail, Friday (01/03/2013).
Since her first pregnancy, she had never even told about the risks and side effects of consuming drugs on fetal development in epilepsy rahimnnya. Doctors, midwives and consultants, all advised him to take the drug despite knowing she was pregnant.
"I've completed the trust in the medical profession," he continued.
Suspicions Emma began to appear after all the children develop health problems. However, when consulted, doctors told Emma just depressed and there's nothing wrong with it.
It was only recently he found that there is a relationship between Epilim with birth defects. He was a little relieved to know the source of the cause, and sad because I never knew that the medicine is causing all of the conditions that occur in children.
Epilim is a registered trade name for sodium valporate, anti-epileptic drugs are also prescribed for people with bipolar disorder and depression. These drugs have an increased risk of birth defects if taken by pregnant women.
Epilim is one of the most effective drugs for controlling seizures. However, researchers at Liverpool University published a study this month, which found that children exposed in the womb Epilim six times more likely to develop a neurodevelopmental disorder.
The researchers concluded that one in three children born to mothers who take Epilim may have learning difficulties, low IQ and autism.
"This is a big medical dilemma," said Professor Gus Baker, a leading neuropsychologist who conducted the study.

Sweating is the body's way to control the internal temperature, which will issue a sweat when the body temperature increases. A girl in South Carolina, a rare genetic metabolic disorder that made him unable to sweat.
Sarah Larimore was only 7 years old, but he had to take a variety of medications every day for a rare disease that attacked her. Doctors diagnosed her with cystinosis, the metabolic system disorder that causes the sweat glands are not able to sweat.
"We live in South Carolina where the weather is very hot, so I was forced to forbid her to stay at home during the season pana. Sarah spent more time in the summer with a dip in the pool that we build on the home page so as not to overheat it," said Katie Larimore, Sarah's mother.
Because Sarah fairly rare disease, not much information about this disease. Government of South Carolina considering various cases of rare diseases to persuade pharmaceutical companies to invest in treatment.
Disruption this causes cystinosis the amino acid, cystine, to accumulate in each cell of the body and damage blood cells. This can cause the body's internal temperature control difficulties and unable to secrete sweat. If Sarah is too long the heat, his cheeks would turn red.
"When she was one year old, he did not grow well and need to drink two gallons of water per day. Now she had to take 33 pills every day and the number of drugs will increase to about 80 pills later when he was teenager," said Katie, ABC News reported on Friday (03/01/2013).
