Because Drinking Epilepsy Drug, Emma got 5 Autistic and Deaf Children

Emma Murphy was taking epilepsy drugs since the age of 12 years. But no one told him about the risks of these drugs when taken during pregnancy. As a result, five children were born with physical and developmental problems, ranging from autism to deafness.

"It is very difficult because my kids each have individual needs and dealing with autistic children is very challenging. Husband and I have a good routine and we can handle it, but this has put a lot of pressure on us as a couple," said Emma Murphy, as reported by the Daily Mail, Friday (01/03/2013).

Epilim is one of the most effective drugs for controlling seizures. However, researchers at Liverpool University published a study this month, which found that children exposed in the womb Epilim six times more likely to develop a neurodevelopmental disorder.
The researchers concluded that one in three children born to mothers who take Epilim may have learning difficulties, low IQ and autism.
"This is a big medical dilemma," said Professor Gus Baker, a leading neuropsychologist who conducted the study.

A pharmaceutical company is expected to receive FDA approval for a new drug that can replace Cystagon. The new drugs are designed to work for 12 hours instead of another 6 hours to disturb his sleep.
